Batman -RIP Reviewed Spoiler-free

So, what did I think of this highly touted storyline? Honestly, I was a little underwhelmed by the whole thing.

Breaking down the Batman has kind of already been done and not all that long ago. Remember the story that brought in Sasha Bordeaux(she ended up heading up Checkmate later)? Batman was supposed to be in love with her and his personalities were diverging then too. This one had Batman getting a bit more psychotic (always the case when you start bringing in Bat-Mite whose going "whoa, you are effing wacko!"). However, all this doesn't necessarily make it better. The convoluted feel might be just what Grant was going for in CA-RAZY Batman.

I know they said all the books were tie-ins, but the peripheral books didn't really follow the same BATMAN continuity. I was almost more engaged by the Detective Comics story myself.... Although I highly doubt they'll hold Batman and Catwoman together for long. The angst between the two is the stuff the Batman mythos are born out of.

Oh, and when did Robin become a Bad Ass? I guess they're planning on moving forward with the Red Robin storyline soon...

If Tommy Elliot can survive an explosion in the batcave, Bruce can survive a helicopter crash. If not, it's a lame death for Mr. Wayne. At least give it a big Splash page when it really does happen ;) I'm sure this will lead into more Bat-drama in the next few months, but I'm kind of glad this storyline is over.

5.5/10

Glancing over valid points

I get it.

I really do.

I've been working in politics for almost a year now and have seen the ups, downs, attacks, and defenses of both sides of the aisle during this presidential campaign.  However, I've also not seen the glancing over of valid character judgement on the scale I've seen in regards to Obama.

McCain is decidedly on his heels in this race so he certainly needs to go on the offense instead of being called Bush all the time.  That said, if one of the myriad of tax hikes or government socialism he will employ won't get to the people, obviously McCain will go after Obama's background.

The background that is mired with radical, divisive, dishonest CHARACTERS.  As much as people love the story of Obama, they like to glance over the likes of Ayers, Rezko, Raines, and Wright.  Like it or not, Obama was VERY involved with these guys.

"NOOOOO!!!!!  You're ruining my ObamaJesus story!!!!"

Bill Ayers WAS a domestic terrorist.  Obama and him DID work together.  Obama DID come out politically AT AYERS' home!!!!  Obviously, if you have very little connection with someone, you announce yourself to the public at their house....  Also, you don't run a few non-profits with a guy if you are just acquaintances.

Real-estate developer and broker Rezko has been convicted of wire and mail fraud, money laundering and bribery. Obama was elected in 1996 -- representing a district that included 11 of Rezko's 30 low-income housing projects; Rezko made donations to the campaign. In 2003, Obama announced he was running for the U.S. Senate, and Rezko -- a member of his campaign finance committee -- held a lavish fund-raiser June 27, 2003, at his Wilmette mansion. A few months after Obama became a U.S. senator, he and Rezko's wife, Rita, bought adjacent pieces of property from a doctor in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood -- a deal that has dogged Obama the last two years. The doctor sold the mansion to Obama for $1.65 million -- $300,000 below the asking price. Eight months later -- in October 2006 -- Rezko was indicted on charges he solicited kickbacks from companies seeking state pension business under his friend Gov. Blagojevich. Federal prosecutors maintain that $10,000 from the alleged kickback scheme was donated to Obama's run for the U.S. Senate.

Former Chairman and CEO of Fannie Mae Franklin Raines was an adviser to Obama on mortgage and housing policy.  Raines, who retired from Fannie Mae four years ago, had "taken calls from Barack Obama's presidential campaign seeking his advice on mortgage and housing policy matters. It is still not entirely clear how involved these talks were, but the mere connection is enough to raise some suspicion on the matter.

Blogging the VP debate LIVE!

I'll be watching, will you?

A bit late...

Biden seems to not realize business is not evil.

Uh oh, Palin seems to know what she's talking about....

Debt mortgage that McCain supported... yes, she would have supported it.

Oh, it's complicated and Biden doesn't think we want to hear about it...

Hmmmm. sarah, not a great rebuke...

Same sex rights:

Ok, they both like gays and Palin kind of skirted "no" they won't support gay marriage with a overly long answer

Troop funding:

Actually Biden had a good answer....

Nuclear Iran vs. Unstable Pakistan:
Evidently Obama never said something he absolutely did with the precondidtions.

Meeting the candidates

On Friday, September 5, 2008, I had the privilege of working the aisles at a McCain-Palin Rally in Sterling Heights. The working portion was okay, but getting to be front and, to the left of the two of them was a huge treat.

You had your obligatory warm-up speeches, one of which was paticularly invigorating. I don't remember any of the opening speakers names other than the Michigan senators and Candice Miller... oh Mike cox too. This black woman got up there and really told this heart-felt story about how her Dad had always told her to vote democrat and never knew why. As she got older, she realized her dad was wrong and that he never really was a Democrat himself but always voted that way. She was very proud and even got choked up a few times. After she got done with her story, the entire place was going insane. Outside of the moment Palin and McCain came on-stage, easily the biggest response. It's good to see that a greater number of people realize that government isn't there to make your life good, it's there to help you lift your head high and make your own life as good as it can be.

The speeches McCain and Palin gave were shorter versions of the ones they both gave at the National conventions the two days before, but that was okay, it was still fun to cheer them on.

However, the real treat was the hand shaking and Autographing. I was right up on the rail and was in danger of getting squashed a few times. McCain wasn't signing things but was doing a good job of responding cordially to peoples' praise with winks, thank yous, and comments to those that had something worth responding to.

Palin was second. This was REALLY where I was being squashed. People REALLY like her. She signed two things I had for her, but I blanked on something to say. I don't want to mention it, but she is actually better looking in person. These girls next to me were saying, "oh my god, she's so hot!" after she'd gone by.

A few people on stage had given her Red Wings jerseys. One with Palin and the other with Champs as the name.

Those would be the most famous people I've ever met. Well, I also met Bush, but he doesn't have the same Rockstar feel as these two do right now.

Carnival

Now, I don't mean to poop on anyone's parade here, (pun intended) but it just seems like all those South American countries really outdo any and all US parades. Can you think of a parade you've been to that needed grandstands to watch it? Sure, it's Carnival and it's their big, all-out parade, but WOW! Those floats are all enormous and beautiful looking and the best we can do is a float made of roses or a big ass balloon... yeay... OK, I know alot of time goes into those things and there are those who really enjoy that type of thing, but.. LOOK at that parade! I'd actually watch that if it came on TV, not, "oh, hey, this same parade again..."

I've also thought of the possibility that we just aren't as enthusiastic about things as people in Rio De Janeiro are. Of course, those parades are exceedingly more sexual than our parades. I mean, people couldn't even handle Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction". I'm not sure some people could handle handfuls of women wearing ONLY little pasties. Frankly, who doesn't want to watch scantily-clad, stunning looking women dance in over-the-top outfits to latin music? Sure, they are sexy, but the spectacle far outweighs the "ah, she's not wearing any clothes" aspect.

On that topic, I'd like to point out that as crazy as the women's costumes are, the men's are absolutely astounding.

Look at this guy! Can you imagine being in that costume? There has to be some sort of power trip going on to be dressed as an ocean king like that and having half a million people cheering for you.

How about a guy in an amazing Japanese themed costumed commemorating 100 years of Japanese immigrants? How about some zany looking robot guys and a "pack of cards"? There's DAYS of this thing going on and we've got nothing that comes close to one day of it.

Oh, I guess there are fireworks too...

Whew, ok, you get the picture, and if not here is where you can see more.

You know I'm amazed, I just don't even know how they can pull all that off. Maybe it's alot less expensive in Rio, who knows?

The Big Intro

Welcome to my, hopefully always enjoyable, Blog. My name is George and this is my on again-off again logo over at the left there. I just don't use it everywhere, but I hope to be doing a few more graphic things in the coming months to give you a bit more eye-candy. I should be able to get around to some reviews of things that I experience. Don't worry, I'll mark it as a review so you can sit and read it or not. Other than that, I hope to be able to bring some cool, crazy things to this site that whoever reads it (not likely to be very many people) can have a good time with. Oh, I might have a few things to say here and there about some issues, so feel free to skim that stuff, skip it altogether, or pull a, "I hear that!" Whatever you do, don't constantly call me an ass on my blog, once will be enough ;) Anyway, I'll see you soon!
