Carnival

Now, I don't mean to poop on anyone's parade here, (pun intended) but it just seems like all those South American countries really outdo any and all US parades. Can you think of a parade you've been to that needed grandstands to watch it? Sure, it's Carnival and it's their big, all-out parade, but WOW! Those floats are all enormous and beautiful looking and the best we can do is a float made of roses or a big ass balloon... yeay... OK, I know alot of time goes into those things and there are those who really enjoy that type of thing, but.. LOOK at that parade! I'd actually watch that if it came on TV, not, "oh, hey, this same parade again..."

I've also thought of the possibility that we just aren't as enthusiastic about things as people in Rio De Janeiro are. Of course, those parades are exceedingly more sexual than our parades. I mean, people couldn't even handle Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction". I'm not sure some people could handle handfuls of women wearing ONLY little pasties. Frankly, who doesn't want to watch scantily-clad, stunning looking women dance in over-the-top outfits to latin music? Sure, they are sexy, but the spectacle far outweighs the "ah, she's not wearing any clothes" aspect.

On that topic, I'd like to point out that as crazy as the women's costumes are, the men's are absolutely astounding.

Look at this guy! Can you imagine being in that costume? There has to be some sort of power trip going on to be dressed as an ocean king like that and having half a million people cheering for you.

How about a guy in an amazing Japanese themed costumed commemorating 100 years of Japanese immigrants? How about some zany looking robot guys and a "pack of cards"? There's DAYS of this thing going on and we've got nothing that comes close to one day of it.

Oh, I guess there are fireworks too...

Whew, ok, you get the picture, and if not here is where you can see more.

You know I'm amazed, I just don't even know how they can pull all that off. Maybe it's alot less expensive in Rio, who knows?
